derrick carters seminal sound patrol album originally released in 1994, * sweetened - no lemon*, will see a re-release in january 2016. the alias provided a place for carter to explore deeper and sometimes more atmospheric styles. the sound patrol record originally came out via chicagos organico label, while derrick carters own arts & labour is handling the reissue. the triple vinyl re issue adds four new unreleased tracks. the whole album has been re mastered for 2016. this follows a limited edition sampler 12 inch released in 2015 which contained another 2 unreleased tracks.

whiskey disco 44 joins the ranks of two label vets, pontchartrain and the silver rider. both have turned in top-selling recent successes on labels like lovedancing, smokecloud records, street edits and of course their respective appearances on whiskey disco. pontchartrain leads the a-side with heavy vocal, percussion and samples with a healthy side of dub. his quality mixing matched with meticulously programmed sampling are up to his usual high standards of work. mystery man, the silver rider adds some sexual tension to the flip in the form of muzik and never stop. two songs steeped in tender loving care

its always been tricky predicting what firecracker recordings will release next, though few would have expected an ep of freestyle, darkside drum machine jazz and percussive drone from berceuse heroique, nous and bedouin regular healing force project. sounding like early 23 skidoo replayed on drum machines and samplers, theres much to admire about the hectic rhythms, foreboding textures and dusty samples at the heart of gravitational lensing. its unclassifiable and completely out there, paranoid, dense and intense, with the fizzing drums, mangled horns and metallic percussion hits of random walks just edging out the experimental jungle-jazz madness of apophenia in the top tracks stakes.

back in soviet times when the official local music market was controlled by the biggest record monopoly in history melodiya, many local musicians who wanted to express themselves in actual form, released tapes themselves and spread it through a big underground market network called magnitizdat (short of magnetic tape release). it began in the 60s with soviet rock movement and illegal copies of foreign music which got through border with tourists, seamen and diplomats. in the late 80s you could find there many different shades of music from underground protest rock, post punk, avant-garde to a lot of electronic pop, local kind of italo disco and dj s mixtapes with a personal rap on top of it. plus seven records begins a sublable series of remastered edits which narrate about dance part of this story.

q3a is a new alias of route 8, a producer who has credits on labels like lobster theremin and nous as well as black venison. now the producer serves up a sumptuous four track ep, space chamber, on the delsin label and it touches on many different styles with equally great results. lost souls is first and is an expansive bit of well driven deep house with rich synths and cavernous innards that really suck you in. next up is another serenely crafted bit of atmospheric house with dusty drums and lose hits all backed with heavenly pads and retro bass. the first of the b-side tracks is a chunky acid kicker with angelic vocals drifting up top as a controlled 303 line rips up the foreground. spaced out and deep, driving yet emotive, it is a moving bit of club music before the b2 trips you out on a silvery electro tip with its icy lines and slap-funk snares. overall, this is an expansive and perfectly formed ep and comes with a sleeve by boris tellegen.

2015 has been a busy year for soul intent. relocating from nottingham to bromley, releasing -the fruit club ep- on lossless in march, his -wanna fight ep- dropped on klute s commercial suicide in august, the sci-fi themed -replicant- marked lossless music s first digital only release in october and his -late night sleaze ep- has been awarded mixmag s dnb tune of the month (nov 15 issue). on top of all this alex is about to launch two (yes two!!) sub-labels for lossless music. the first of these is exkursions. exkursions will cater for the deeper, more experimental side of dnb & electronic music. though concentrating it s tempo focus around the 170 mark exkursions will also be taking explorations down into slower soundscapes. the first release is a 3 tracker from soul intent and the tracks have already turned the heads of respected selectors including doc scott, presha, loxy and logistics. we won t say much for than that, we ll let the music do the talking.

the ep starts with the german vocalized protest song -uberall polizei, nirgendwo gerechtigkeit-, an ebm inspired track which reminds us of the early 80s belgium artists like the neon judgement and nitzer ebb. on the flip the riot continues with -kriegdienstverweigerer-, a hypnotic neo-electronic jam with rattling synths, psychedelic baselines and a repetitive robotic vocoder on top. the ep ends with the title track -unify-, a deep cold cinematic floor burner.

french composer and multi-instrumentalist pierre bastien delivers the latest entry into morphines increasingly diverse catalog. active for over four decades, bastien is best known for building automated orchestras, and his most recent lp, machinations, was released on aphex twin s rephlex label in 2012.
for this latest work, bastien recycled components of his silent motors live set and assembled new mechanical organisms—using amplified meccano parts, motors, fans, rattles, paper, and nails—to generate rhythmic scaffolding. live instrumentals, from prepared trumpets to the african kundi harp, javanese rabab, sanza, electric harpsichord, bass, drums, and gongs, were then superimposed on top.

leading on perfectly from secludeds debut album release, reeko & jonas kopp have provided their own interpretations of tracks selected from the album. reeko has created a full on, pounding version of >feeling< while jonas kopp has offered up two mixes, one peak time techno jam, the other a beatless remix by his manzel alias. also, secluded has put a cherry on top with his flashback remix of >distant<, rounding off another quality release.

2017 repressed .... we are delighted to welcome back detroits rick wade to the landed records imprint. a guy who needs no introduction in the house and disco music scene, ricks stable career as a dj and producer has spanned more than two decades. treating the world to some of the best loved deep house and angry disco tracks, its easy to see why hes such a well loved and respected artist. the adjustment of status ep spins a terrific story of raw house music and angry disco - two sounds where rick is well and truly on top of his game.

one of the defining releases on large music gets a special re-issue after a 16 year wait. considered by many to be one of the top 3 packages in the early large catalog, this ep set the trajectory for what would quickly become known as the west coast sound of american house. the main vocal on side a also became a venerable classic at the shelter in nyc and was played consistently by timmy regisford throughout his tenure there. the darker, more disco filtered tones on the flip side were also highly praised and played at the time by french djs such as daft punk, phil weeks, cassius and many others. rasoul is often overlooked as one of the chief architects of modern deep house, yet this release certainly secures his elite standing in the annals of house music history. essential!

phonica white returns with two extended cuts from their mainstay artist iori. monsoon & rainfall mark ioris 5th contribution to the label and it may be his best yet. monsoon on the a-side is a deeply hypnotizing piece of dub techno thats destined to cause dance floor destruction. steady kicks & toms open the track up before a relentless downpour of intricate percussion and low-end stabs lock you in for the track’s 10 minute duration definitely one for the long nights in dark rooms. the b-side is a calming contrast to the a side storm. deep and meditative, rainfall comprises sparse modulating synth keys coupled with a bouncy rhythm section and airy spaced-out sound effects that create a dreamy atmosphere. this is iori on top form.

tiger stripes has delivered some heavy hitting tracks with his new ep on truesoul. each track has chunky drums that are laced with insanely catchy vocal hooks that keep the tracks and give them each a distinguishable character. the energy throughout the single is always kept up with the sweeping pads and stabs adding a dynamic flavour and showing us why tiger stripes is at the top of his game

who said that there is no techno in bavaria? not only the bavarian based label itself as a kind of lighthouse for the more energetic sounds deep in the bavarian heart is a proof, also the young and crazy dirty basscore is emerging from there with his very own, unique, freaked out, crazy, uncomprimising style. compared to his outlets so far this one might not be the craziest and freaked out stuff he did, but for sure this is a massive debut and introduction of his trademark and unlimited talent here on credo. perfectly timed and playable tunes with only one goal: working on the dancefloor! and as this wouldnt be enough we even top it with an excellent repaint by another bavarian techno-stallion. klaudia gawlas, who probably doesn t need any introduction, delivered a superb interpretation of the titletrack.

what sam kdc has achieved here is nothing short of genius. this is a very filmic visual lp and will take you away to another world. this also shows that sam’s production skills are very thoughtful and mindful of the potential listeners that should flock on mass to this chilled out and wonderfully crafted lp. if you like the deeper side of music and all things ambient, then this is a no brainer, it’s from the top drawer of the quality cupboard. if you just want something mellow as an alternative then this is the one for you.
